Marking Sport for Development Day, Japanese athletes take UN Global Goals forward

The General Assembly on Monday urged United Nations Member States to observe the Olympic Truce – the ancient Greek tradition calling for the cessation of hostilities before, during and after the Games – in the context of next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Measures adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and supported by the UN have been described as a “game changer” for future Olympic events in terms of driving sustainability in sport and fighting climate change. Tania Braga, who heads the IOC legacy department, helps host countries stay on track to score global climate action and sustainability goals.
