Stop global warming to turn the tide on sea-level rise: UN Assembly President

The level of the sea globally is rising faster and higher than ever before creating what the United Nations has described as a “urgent and escalating threat” to people around the world.

The UN chief on Thursday called for immediate and unrestricted humanitarian access to Myanmar, where last week’s devastating earthquakes claimed over 3,000 lives and left millions in urgent need of aid.

The communities of thousands of tiny Pacific islands are the frontline gamechangers tackling the climate crisis, and a hub based in Micronesia now hosts more than a dozen UN agencies that together are helping address some of their most pressing needs as they battle existential threats like rising sea levels.
