WFP scales up operations to reach millions in Sudan

A convoy of trucks from the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday crossed into war-torn Sudan from Chad through the crucial Adre crossing, headed for Zamzam IDP Camp in North Darfur where famine conditions have already been confirmed. 

With famine confirmed in the Zamzam displacement camp in Sudan’s North Darfur, there are growing concerns that similar crises may be unfolding in other nearby camps, an official with the UN emergency food relief agency (WFP) said on Wednesday, in an interview with UN News.

Two aid convoys carrying lifesaving supplies have reached Sudan’s Darfurs for the first time in months, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said on Friday, as humanitarians try to avert a “hunger catastrophe”, after nearly a year of heavy fighting.
