What is sea level rise and why does it matter to our future?

With global sea level rising faster than at any time over the last 3,000 years, UN Member States met on Wednesday to examine how to best address this existential threat. 

More people globally are being affected by disasters than ever before, despite the adoption of a UN-backed international disaster reduction agreement in 2015. Experts from around the world are gathering at UN Headquarters to speed up efforts to fully implement that agreement to bring about a safer world.

More than 700,000 women are in prison around the world, and that number is growing much faster than men, the Human Rights Council has heard.
